In the book “of mice and men” there are 2 sets of characters that are similar. Those characters are George and Lennie, and Candy and the dog. They are similar because Lennie is like Georges dog because he follows george around and he does everything that he is told to do.
Hysteria was shown in Episode 5 by deidre. She showed it because she was full of fear when she saw Oscar Totem get burnt at the stake. She also showed it when she was getting followed by the guy with the newspaper. Hysteria led to the panic because there was alot of fear between the citizens, becuase they thought the people with the chips were plotting against them, which led to the panic.
My initial reaction to the plot was ‘why did they want to fight a monster if they knew that they were gonna lose? the big idea of this book is Bravery. Percy Jackson is a character that just wants to help his friends and puts his life on the line to do so.
The character that i disliked the most was Zoe Nightshade. I dislike her because she seems like she knows everything and i dont like people that act that way.
In the book Percy Jackson, the Titans Curse pride and downfall is the cause to many things in the book. In the text, one of the characters, Annabeth, had too much pride when she was attacking the manticore. When she was fighting the manticore, she was pushed off the edge of a cliff because she had too much pride and she didn’t look out which is why the big idea is having too much pride can cause your downfal.
Also in the book, Empathy is another big idea. This is because this book is circled around it. For example, When Annabeth fell off the cliff, Percy Jackson felt bad because his best friend fell off of a cliff. Another example is that the whole plot of this book is around Percy escaping camp invisibly, so then he can go find Annabeth which is pretty much the definition of Empathy.
The furthest that i think that technology should go is probably like cell phones and computers. I say that because I dont trust the robots that are taking over in restaurants and that just dont sit well with me. That is just one step closer to taking over the world.
I do think that most of us are reliant of technology. I think that because people today use their cell phones a lot and they dont go outside and enjoy the world with the nature still left.
Some of the benefits of the modern technology is the ability to speak with one another telephonically. I also believe that some of the benefits that come with technology is the medical field. If you didnt have the technology for medicine and the stuff along that line, people would be dead along time ago and the life expectancy would go down drastically.
In the past I think that I have read 2 books that should have been censored and banned. The 2 books are Neanderthal opens the door to the Universe, and the other one is Flight. The main reasons that they should have been censored is because of their graphic content that lays behind the covers of the books. I mainly think that Flight should have been censored because of all the swear words and the graphic nature that it has. The issue in this book that are issues to teens today is all of the self hate and how teens dont realize that the world isn’t against them like they think in the books that I listed.
“It may seem as though there is no valid “excuse” for theft, but consider stealing from your foster child’s position. He or she typically doesn’t steal with malicious intent. Instead, some foster children steal things in order to gain a sense of power or control over their lives.”
This connects to Zits because in the book he tends to steal from different places. He is a foster child that is looking for a sense of power. He doesn’t steal with malicious intent, he just does it to be noticed.
“Some unhealthy coping mechanisms are Binge-watching Netflix, escaping into video games, scrolling on the phone, eating far too many unhealthy snacks, turning to alcohol and drugs.”
This shows that teens today have bad mental health. Teens today do these things to cope with something and to drown all the bad things out. This connects to Zits because he lost his parents and is going through a bunch of different foster homes and he drowns the stress and pain out with drugs and alcohol.
“In multivariate analysis, female gender, Hispanic race, overweight and obesity, sensation seeking, rebelliousness, and daily TV time were each independently associated with lower self-esteem. Teens of Black race, with higher parental responsiveness and demandingness, better school performance or involvement in team sports were less likely to report low self-esteem. Low self-esteem was associated with a number of modifiable risk factors including obesity, television time, team sports participation, school performance and parenting style”
This connects to Zits because of many things. The first thing that connects Zits and this quote is the fact that Zits is of different race and ethnicity. Another thing that connects Zits and this quote is that he suffers from low self esteem like many of different teens today. The last thing that ties them together is the racism that Zits has to face. Because of the racism that Zits faces, and the exclusionary nature of everybody that he has come across, he has low self esteem.
Avoid a task or challenge without even trying. This often signals a fear of failure or a sense of helplessness. Cheat or lie when they think they’re going to lose a game or do poorly. Make self-critical comments such as “I never do anything right,” “Nobody likes me,” “I’m ugly,” “It’s my fault,” or “Everyone is smarter than I am.”
This connects to Zits because he experiences multiple of these things. first thing that connects them is the ‘avoid a task or challenge without even trying.’ this connects them because Zits likes to give up on his foster families before he even gets to know his foster families. The other thing is the ‘self critical comments’ because on in the book he states “as ugly as I am…” (Alexie 2). This shows that he has low self esteem and that it connects with teens today.
At some point in adolescence, your child will start to see your flaws, and she will then start to comment upon them. If you want to raise a critical thinker, you teach your child how to have her own opinions. If your teen is really honing his observational skills on you and tearing you to shreds, it’s going to hurt. It is the turn towards adulthood, and in order for identity to form in a healthy way, adolescence, which can start as early as 9 and last until the age of 19, requires this rejection of everything familiar.
This connects to Zits because Zits is a very judgemental teen. The first thing that connects the teens and Zits in the article is his opinions. Zits’ whole character heavily relies on his opinions and so do most of the teens today. The second thing that connects them is his observation skills. Throughout all of his foster homes, his observations skills is the reason that he got kicked out and got in trouble. This is because his observations led to opinions and he usually said his opinions out loud and got in trouble like kids today do.
“I can’t believe how judgey my 15-year-old is. She never stops criticising me, her friends, complete strangers, and (most sadly of all) herself. Ironically, the biggest driver of teen’s off-putting judgmental attitude is their need to belong. They are hyper-aware of what other people are doing at this age because they want to fit in with a perceived ‘normal’. So they notice everything. Externalising their inner angst by judging others as being inferior can temporarily boost unsteady self-esteem.
This connects to Zits because Zits seems to always judge people. The first thing that connects Zits and the teens today is his criticizing. Zits is always criticising everyone that he comes across. For example, he judges Justice by asking if he was a fag by just looking at him. He judges people without knowing them. Another reason that Zits connects to this article is his instant bad attitude towards people that he doesnt even know. For example, he got angry with his foster parents for no reason and then ran out on them. The main reason for this though is because of his bad experiences with his ex foster parents and he thought the new ones were like the Indian foster parent.
you could opt for fresh fruit or nuts, which offer several health benefits and can give you some energy to face the situation at hand. talk to a teen counselor who can help you look at your feelings and assess where they might be coming from. Write, color, draw, sculpt, or create in another way. Sing, dance, or play an instrument. Take a warm bath or shower. Go for a walk or drive. Clean and organize your surroundings. Read a chapter of a book. Hold an ice cube. This is a common grounding technique to redirecting the mind away from overwhelming thoughts or feelings.
This is different from Zits because of a couple reasons. The first reason is because of all of the coping skills. For example, Zits was going around jumping from a bunch of different foster families and he isn’t able to cope like teens today do. He doesnt cope like teens today because of his past. In the past he was abused and he was beat for expressing his emotions and coping. Another reason that he is different from teens today is that he doesnt like counselors. For example, he saw a counselor that tried to help him and use sympathy. Zits didnt like when the counselor used sympathy.
positive emotions affect our brains in ways that increase our awareness, attention, and memory. People who have plenty of positive emotions in their everyday lives tend to be happier, healthier, learn better, and get along well with others. Start by simply focusing on your feelings. You can tune in to your emotions in real time, as they happen.
The points in this quote are different from Zits because of a few things. The first thing that differs from Zits and this article is the positive emotions. Zits suffers from negative emotions because he goes from foster home to foster home and that causes him to have negative emotions because he doesnt enjoy moving from place to place.
Seeming confident and being able to recognize strengths Feeling like others like them and accept them for who they are Showing pride when accomplishing task and meeting goals Having a basic belief in their own abilities Being willing to try new things and take risks, as well as bounce back after setbacks
These points are different from Zits because of 2 different things. First thing that makes him different is not being willing to try new things. For example, Zits goes to foster families and is disobedient without even trying things out them then he runs away. The second thing that makes him different is him showing pride in what he does. He doesnt show pride in what he does because of what happened in his past. When he tried to show pride in his past – winning something against one of his foster parents, his foster parent broke what he won with and made him not show pride in what he does anymore.
You will also know their self-esteem is high if they are kind to people. Unkindness in teens usually comes from a place of self-loathing; they put others down to feel good about themselves. Comparison is indeed the thief of joy and is a very normal and human trait that we all experience at some level. But when your teen knows their value and self-worth they will not feel comparison and jealousy as keenly.
Zits’ self-esteem is different from the teens in this quote. One difference is when people are kind, then they’re self-esteem is higher. Zits isn’t kind. For example, when Zits woke up at a new home, the first thing that he does is try to pick a fight with the foster father. The second difference is that he doesnt have self worth. In the book he has many instances where he thinks lowly of himself. The first one, he called himself ugly, and wishes that he wasn’t ugly.
Understanding your triggers as a parent and learning to respond rather than react can change the emotional climate of your interactions. By practicing non-judgmental observation and description, both parties can break this cycle. This approach allows for a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences and perspectives, fostering a supportive environment where open communication thrives. Focusing on facts: When discussing behaviors or conflicts, stick to what you’ve observed directly, avoiding interpretations or assumptions. Encouraging open dialogue: Invite your teen to share their observations and descriptions of their own feelings and behaviors, creating a space for mutual understanding.
This quote and Zits are different because of a couple of reasons. The first reason that they are different is because the foster parent didnt understand his triggers. For example, the foster parents from the begining of the book didn’t understand that Zits didnt want to talk to them and he ran away. The second thing that makes them different is that the foster parents were hostile and they didnt get to understand Zits. Then that caused Zits to run away after the father swung on him.
Non-judgmental stance, a cornerstone of DBT, emphasizes understanding and accepting situations and people as they are, without labeling them as good or bad. In parenting, this translates to accepting your teen’s feelings and behaviors without immediate criticism or judgment. This approach fosters empathy, a critical element in understanding and effectively guiding your teen. Adopting a non-judgmental stance in parenting has numerous benefits. It builds a stronger, more open relationship with your teen, creates a supportive home environment, and encourages your teen to develop essential life skills, including problem-solving and emotional regulation.
Zits differs from this final quote because of two reasons. The first reason that these quotes are different is because the foster parents didnt accept Zits’ emotions. The foster parents just immediately went after him without trying to understand why he was feeling that way. The second reason is because he didnt have a supportive home environment. He went from place to place without the ability to have a supportive home environment, because he was at one place long enough to develop a supportive home environment.
I think that every book that has explicit content shouldnt be avalible to people that are younger than high school. I think that because minors shouldnt have access to that kind of stuff. Another reason that i think that is because when children are in high school they tend to be more mature and the books wont give them as much trauma as it would a little kid. Children shouldnt be able to have access to books with graphic nature. A book that I read in 8th grade, “Milk and Honey” that had explicit photos in it. Thats the kind of book that children shouldnt be reading because of the graphic nature and the explicity of the book
There is some connections from the article and the novel. One of the ideas that connect to flight is “In 1975, two FBI agents and a native man were killed in a shootout between federal agents and AIM members and local residents. This connects because in the book Zits became one of the federal agents that died in the shootout between Aim and the federal agents. An additional idea that is connected is “Aim members occupied Alcatraz Island off San Fransisco” This also connects because Zits is always going to jail and the people in Alcatraz are Indians like Zits.
The most important aspect of Zits is his rebellious instinct. In the novel Flight, Zits claims “Im fighting and kicking because thats just what I do. Its how Im wired” (Alexie 17). He is rebellious because people dont like Native Americans and he thinks that everyone is out to hurt him.
He is an accurate depiction of a teen. In the book he is rebellious, which most teens are. He also thinks that the world is against him. Teens like him and everyone else need someone to talk to like he talked to his one white friend named justice.
